Dress Shirts Styles and Codes

Dress shirts are easy to identify and match, but what do they come out of? Well, for starters, these articles of clothing are manufactured by and for the specific person who will wear them. The individual choosing the article of clothing can be found anywhere in society, but often a particular style or cut will make the choice easier, especially when paired with an outfit that compliments it.

The dress shirts made of cotton are the most commonly found article of clothing, worn by men and women alike on a daily basis. From casual to formal occasions, people in all demographics wear these clothing items. A dress shirt, short-sleeved shirt, crew neck t-shirt, or even denim shirt is a basic article of clothing with a full- Length open in the front, and usually has either a V-neck or a cuffed sleeve. Cotton is the fabric of choice because it is comfortable, light, and easy to clean.

From casual shirts to preppy, contemporary, and formal tees, there are an unlimited number of designs, colors, and styles to choose from. Colors and fabrics used for these articles of clothing are based on how they will be used: whether for a sports enthusiast, teenager, professional, or just someone looking for everyday casual clothing. The different fabrics used for casual shirts are more flexible, have more texture, and can be dyed to match a number of different activities, creating a unique and comfortable wardrobe.

Collar style dress shirts are short and around the neck, reaching up to the ear, or to the top button. The collars are either buttoned up above the buttons, like on a shirt, cuff, or top button down, like on a sweater. There are also single-shoulder dress shirts that reach to the top of the shoulder, with a single belt loop or zippered flap. A single-shoulder shirt can either be left unbuttoned or with buttons down the neck.

Tops and dress shirts may be reinforced with snap or Velcro. Snap tops have buttons located on the front of the shirt right below the collar, while Velcro tops have buttons located on the back of the shirt. Both styles allow the wearer to open the shirt by pulling on the zipper or Velcro. For more casual or athletic wear, tucking the shirt into itself may be preferred. Tucking shirts may be done with or without a belt.

While casual wear and sporty wear are worn for several occasions, formal wear is worn for more formal occasions such as weddings, graduations, corporate attire, and more. Formal dress shirts may be paired with ties and shoes, or they may be paired with a jacket or blazer. Because there are so many different styles, colors, and patterns available today, a dress shirt can be worn with virtually any combination of clothing. The key is to choose the appropriate dress code for the occasion. This code may be found on a website or in the dress codes of various businesses.
