Look Chic and Classy in Dressing Room Collars

The collared shirts used to be the dress down shirt, and it was just as often used as a way to show that you had some sort of an accent or you were from an urban background. Of course, this was in the days before pants became the uniform for the masses, or even before they were in style. These shirts still serve that purpose today, but they are not the first thing that comes to mind when thinking back on casual dressing. Let’s explore the history of the collared shirt.

A collared shirt is really just as simple as a standard tee shirt, but in reverse: all that is required is for the wearer to have a point collar on their shirts. This was done primarily to keep the shirt from being worn too low, since a shirt full of buttons would tend to fall to the floor if they were not kept up properly. (Instead, a proper point collar would simply be a part of the shirt’s design and thus easily removable).

Point collared shirts date back to the time when casual dress styles were still in their infancy. The early clothing designs consisted of untucked shirts with rolled up cuffs, and these styles were the precursor to the pulled over casual shirt. As styles progressed, trousers were worn underneath and dress shirts became more like a coat. It was at this point that the collared shirt was born, and it’s a design that has remained throughout the years, even though trousers and dress shirts are now completely different.

Collared shirts can be of several different types. Some are long sleeve, and these tend to be made out of lighter fabrics like cotton or a more flexible type of wool, such as polyester. Others are sleeveless, and these are often made from a heavier fabric, like polyester again, and they often feature pleated sleeves. And there are collared shirts that are sleeveless and feature an open collar, the collars being able to hang down and not being stitched into the fabric, an example of which is the polo shirt.

Collarless shirts have changed over the years as well, being replaced by one form of dress shirt and another form of necktie. Initially, collared shirts were plain and simple, bearing either a buttoned collar or a V-style neckline. Neckties were then added to these types of shirts to complete the look, turning them into what we know today as the dress shirt. However, as the popularity of dress shirts grew, eventually polo shirts were introduced, and they have since become the most popular collarless dress shirt for men, replacing the traditional V neck design.

While collared shirts do tend to be more popular with men, women do wear them too. The number of women who wear these shirts is growing as well; it is no longer considered to be unfashionable for a woman to wear one. In fact, it is actually very trendy for many to wear a collared shirt on special occasions. Some of the most common occasions for women to wear these collared shirts include proms, summer weddings, and formal events such as office parties. As well, many women opt to wear short sleeve collared shirts on occasion, either as a way to be more comfortable in warmer weather, or as part of a more casual wardrobe.

It is also becoming increasingly popular for women to wear dressy tops with their collared shirts. Dress shirts can be dressed up or down, depending on the occasion. For instance, a fancy dress party would usually call for a fancy dress top, so that the wearer can stand out. Wearing a dressy top with a collared shirt can make a woman stand out even more. Wearing a white or red dress shirt with a blue tie is a great combination for a fun night at the office.
