Casual Shirt – Three Basic Features

You’ve got many options when choosing a casual shirt. You can go with something comfortable and loose like a cotton T-shirt, or something sturdier like a polyester blend. You can go with a print or no print; there’s an endless array of choices available. You can also choose between short sleeves or long sleeves; these choices are again up to you. But one thing that you should always have on hand is a casual shirt with a v-neck. If you’re a man, keep in mind that this is sort of a universal dressing code.

The key to choosing a casual shirt is to know what the dress code is for the day. While dress code guidelines have gotten more flexible in recent years, you need to be well dressed to still be comfortable in most situations. Understanding the subtle features that distinguish a casual shirt from a dress shirt will help you easily pick out the proper shirt for each occasion. When picking a shirt with a v-neck, you want it to be loose fitting. V-necks tend to run a little bit tighter than they would in a sleeveless top, especially if you’re wearing a t-shirt underneath.

You also need to choose a shirt that is appropriate for the workplace. While casual dress codes are really flexible these days, some places (such as those that allow casual dress codes) have dress codes that require a certain type of shirt, tie, or blouse. For example, many places that say business casual require that you wear a suit or blouse, and that includes a necktie.

One of the most basic features of casual shirts is the color. While there are basic black, navy, and gray colors as well as more complex color combinations such as purple, there are two exceptions to the rule. Black and white casual shirts can sometimes be worn with other colors, but you shouldn’t wear these with gray. Gray casual shirts are often paired with dark suits, and sometimes with a colored tie.

The second feature that distinguishes a casual shirt from a dress shirt is the type of material that the shirt is made from. Dress shirts are often made from wool, cotton, or a blend of these materials. Jeans are not an appropriate choice for casual clothing unless you are in an office. While jeans may feel comfortable with a lighter, less formal dress shirt, they are not a great option for casual attire.

Jeans are appropriate to wear with a casual shirt even if you are going to a formal event, and you should definitely wear dress shirts with a pair of jeans if you don’t already own a suit. The reason is that the dress shirt is usually more form-fitting than the jeans. Jeans are more baggy and loose, and can easily snag on anything you lay your hands on, including your shoes. A dress shirt is more fitted and is more likely to hold up to being washed repeatedly. If you want to look good in a dress, but you don’t have the time or the money to buy a suit, then go out and wear a nice casual shirt.
